The Think Time Program

Think Time and Related Parenting Strategies is a two-part program offered primarily through a family or group format.  The program firstly involves assessment of problems and identification of the skills needed for change.  Education and intervention regarding skill deficits and skill building is the primary source of treatment success for the Think Time Program.  The program secondly develops strategies for change to be applied during and between meetings.  Over several weeks of intervention practice and modification a long-term plan for successful skill building and change is created that can be used by the family for many years.

Eligibility for the program consists of a general desire to evoke change within the family.  Families who use the program have much in common and report similar challenges  including:

  • Problems with school performance, academic or conduct.
  • A reluctance or dissatisfaction with reliance on medication for change.
  • Stressful morning and evening routines of child care.
  • Inability to get children to listen and obey requests made of them.
  • Loss of temper and moods that interfere with loving interaction with children.
  • Problems getting to appointments on time.
  • Difficulty distinguishing normal from problem behavior within their child.
  • Parental disagreement on discipline.

Participants in the program will:

  • Receive education  with regard to skill deficits of attention, concentration, controls and task completion with emphasis on neurological, emotional, and behavioral   functioning.
  • Learn practical techniques to build skills within their children to compensate for theses skill deficits and evoke change.
  • Receive individual support for the fulfillment of this change in the home.
  • Strategically minimize long-term dependency on treatment and medications.
  • Have opportunity for on-going academic and behavioral crisis support and mentoring.
